Jews from Nürnberg (Nuremberg) had migrated to Frankfurt even in the preghetto days. There was a particularly large number of immigrants in 149899, when the Jews were expelled from Nuremberg. According to estimates by the historian Alexander Dietz at least 60 Jews, or half of all those who were expelled, settled in Frankfurt. They are the origin of some of the most important Jewish families in Frankfurt, such as the Schiff, Cahn, Buchsbaum, Rindskopf, Goldschmidt families and others.
