From memory to the pixel cloud

Talk about site-specific digital interventions and formats in the region with the presentation of the results of the Mapping Offenbach Lab on March 24, 2024.

Webtool

During a lab week in Offenbach with invited artists, designers and other experts, an experimental web tool was created. The resulting prototype records stories about memorable places in Offenbach and makes it possible to comment on them from different perspectives and using various media. In addition to questions, images, 3D scans and reconstructions were added to the spoken audio recording by Michael Lenarz in the workshop.

(1) Questions and pictures subdivide the text sections and are embedded in the text.
(2) The audio guide can be activated with the play button.
(3) There are currently contributions to three locations.

Discussion

Can digital monuments and digital artistic interventions in public spaces contribute to the politics of remembrance? How can the memory of people, places and events be turned into data sets that can be used in educational formats? What significance do digitization projects have for collective memory, and how can a database be turned into appealing apps and websites for different target groups?

Experts discussed these questions with visitors. Digital projects - exhibition formats, reconstructions, artistic formats and apps - that have been created in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region were presented.
