The name Schlesinger appears frequently in Frankfurt's Jewish community from the end of the 17th century, usually in connection with families migrating to Frankfurt from places in Schlesien (Silesia). The Schlesinger families were active in various forms of trade and money lending. Members of these families do not, however, feature particularly in the leading offices of the Jewish community, which were generally held by wealthy members of the community.
