Neugass

The Neugass family is a branch of the Schiff family, which lived in the Judengasse behind the Synagogue since 1611 and got its name from this. The first mention there is of Moses Neugass, who died in 1639. He was very rich and is praised for his religious learning on his gravestone. His successors however were virtually paupers. They worked in inferior positions, including those of schoolmaster und butcher.
