The Jewish doctor Jonas Bonn came from a respected Frankfurt family. He completed his secondary education in Hadamar, Worms, Aschaffenburg and Fulda, then studied medicine in Padua. On his return to Frankfurt, he observed that the two doctors practising in the Judengasse were "partly old, partly dilapidated". In the hope of obtaining the necessary practitioner's license, he applied in 1665 to the city council. Jonas Bonn was one of four signatories of a draft regulation for doctors issued by the Jewish community. Among its main points are: that no doctor might travel away without permission from two community leaders, and that doctors were obliged to treat their colleagues' patients.
He received his practitioner's license in 1666, two years before his death.
