Two Flersheim families lived in the Judengasse. The larger and more important were descended from the linen merchant Löb Flörsheim, who moved from FlörsheimamMain to marry in Frankfurt in 1680. The family house at that time was the Grüner Löwe. Löb had many descendants who occupied several houses in the Judengasse. Many of them achieved reputation and wealth. By the 18th and 19th centuries there were thus a number of smaller and larger moneylenders and retailers in Frankfurt with the name Flersheim. Flersheim remained a common name in Frankfurt up to the time of the Nazis. A grandson of the family founder, Mayer Amschel Flörsheim achieved notoriety in the 18th century: he became a convert to Christianity and then agitated against the Jews.
