Several families named Aschaffenburg after their town of origin lived in the Judengasse. One of these was the most famous Jewish family of doctors in the 16th century. They descended from Mosche of Aschaffenburg. In 1509 he was given right of residence by the Frankfurt city council as a "doctor to the Jews", at the request of a number of counts and influential citizens. He was subsequently appointed to the roll of city doctors. His three sons, Isaac, Abraham and Mosche, were also doctors. They lived in their father's house Rote Löwe. This was one of the wealthy families in the Judengasse: two of its members are listed as traders in 1590 and among the highest taxpayers.
