The family name Öttingen or Ettingen is derived from the town of Öttingen in Bavaria. Six Jews from here (possibly related) migrated to Frankfurt in the first half of the 16th century. By marrying into Frankfurt families, some of them acquired right of residence. Their descendants adopted the name Schuster and become prominent citizens.
