Width at front: c. 3.8 metres
The Goldenes Schwert was built around 1584 on land belonging to the neighbouring Rotes Schwert. With a frontal width of just under four metres it was an average sized house for the Judengasse. Like its neighbour, the house was occupied by members of the Oppenheimer family, and particularly by poorer people from the end of the 17th century. In 1694 for example there were five families living here, two of them living by selling bread and two described specifically as poor. One 24 year old son maintained his parents by selling calfskin. There was also a schoolmaster in the house with his wife and child: they had come from Worms and had been living in Frankfurt for over two years without a permit. The house was destroyed in the fire of 1711 but soon rebuilt. In 1893 the city took it over for demolition.
